What are you actually buying?

An exclusive lead is supplied to one buyer under the agreed terms. A shared lead is supplied to multiple buyers. With either model, ask whether the supplier can resell the record later, how old the request is and whether another company collected it first.

A homeowner can submit a second form somewhere else, call a local installer or ask a neighbor for a recommendation. Your supplier’s exclusivity promise cannot control those actions. It should describe what the supplier and its distribution partners do with the record.

Lead exclusivity is different from territory exclusivity

An exclusive inquiry does not automatically reserve a town or ZIP code for you. A supplier may work with several contractors in the same area while assigning different inquiries to each. If territory protection matters, agree on the geography, duration, covered services and exceptions separately.

At FenceLeads, the proposed offer is one contractor per exclusive inquiry. Territory exclusivity is not included unless separately agreed in writing. The service area determines which inquiries fit your package.

Compare cost per sold job

This comparison is hypothetical. The prices and conversion rates are not market benchmarks or FenceLeads offers.

Imagine 20 exclusive leads at $80 each produce four sold jobs. The lead cost per sold job is $400. Now imagine 20 shared leads at $35 each produce one sold job. That cost is $700. The cheaper inquiry produced the more expensive sale in this example.

Change the results and the conclusion can reverse: two sold jobs from that shared batch would cost $350 each in lead spend. Exclusivity alone does not prove the better return. Compare similar project sizes, margins and sales periods, and account for the work required to contact and quote each prospect.

Questions for a supplier

  • How many companies receive this exact inquiry?
  • Can it be resold later as aged data?
  • Did the homeowner request a fence estimate, and when?
  • Does exclusivity cover distribution partners as well as your own company?
  • What happens if the inquiry is a duplicate or outside our agreed area?
  • What evidence is available to resolve a disputed lead?

Ask for written answers and a sample record before buying. A vague exclusive label is less useful than a clear distribution policy you can hold the supplier to.

Next, define what qualifies as a fencing lead. Distribution and qualification are separate questions, and both affect the value of the inquiry.
